Natural-Organic Makeup & Skincare

It’s so confusing trying to decipher the difference between natural, organic and cruelty free. Demand for natural and organic makeup and skincare continues to increase. We want you to know what you’re getting from the makeup and skincare products that Nature:21 Blvd categorize as natural, organic and cruelty free.  So, here’s the skinny… 

Natural makeup and natural skincare products are made up of ingredients that are natural from plants or naturally occurring minerals, and some have added synthetic chemicals.  Natural products are void of parabens, sulfates, phthalates, and synthetic dyes and colors. If you see a product marked natural, check the ingredient list to make sure.  The most concentrated ingredient is always listed first and as the list goes down, so does the concentration of the ingredients. 

Organic makeup and organic skincare products are natural, but it takes it a step further by looking at how the plant is grown. Organic means no use of synthetic pesticides, petroleum fertilizers, ionizing radiation or sewage sludge fertilizers, and it must not be a genetically modified organism (GMO). USDA Organic meets these stringent requirements: 

• 100 % Organic: Must contain only organically produced ingredients. (The USDA seal may appear on the package.) 
• Organic: Must contain 95% minimum organically produced ingredients.  (The USDA seal may appear on the package.) 
• Made with Organic Ingredients: Contain at least 70% organic ingredients. (The USDA seal cannot be used anywhere on the package.) 

Leaping Bunny Certification indicates products approved by the Leaping Bunny Program. This means the products are Cruelty Free and the products AND the ingredients are not tested on animals. Many products that display the bunny or state that they are cruelty free, may mean the end product was not tested on animals.
